Trump White House Dinner Security Tightened After Assassination Attempt

The White House Correspondents' Association dinner, postponed to July 24, will be held at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C., with heightened security measures. The Secret Service confirmed that electronic tickets will be used and that the smaller venue allows tighter screening of attendees.

The changes follow the April 25 shooting at the Hilton Washington, where a gunman opened fire during the annual dinner. The shooter, 31‑year‑old Cole Thomas Allen, was arrested after being identified as having booked a hotel room and smuggled a weapon into the event. He now faces charges of attempted murder of the president, illegal firearm transport, and use of a firearm during a violent crime.
