US Senate Democrats Call for Hearings on President Trump's $1.4 B Crypto Holdings

Five senior Democratic senators have formally requested congressional hearings to examine President Donald Trump’s cryptocurrency earnings, which his 2025 financial disclosure shows total about $1.4 billion. Lawmakers cite possible conflicts of interest and national‑security risks, especially after a United Arab Emirates‑linked entity reportedly bought a 49 % stake in Trump‑family‑backed World Liberty Financial.

The request comes as the Senate prepares to vote on the Digital Asset Market Clarity (CLARITY) Act, legislation intended to create a regulatory framework for U.S. digital assets. Democrats argue that Trump’s extensive crypto ventures, including a memecoin and token sales, could influence the shaping of that law. Republicans control the Senate and would need 60 votes to overcome a filibuster, making Democratic support crucial for the bill’s passage. Some GOP senators, such as Cynthia Lummis, back the legislation, while others acknowledge that Trump’s crypto ties complicate the process.

The Democrats also referenced a separate bill banning a U.S. central‑bank digital currency until 2030, which is set to become law without the President’s signature.
