Trump’s approval drops as he downplays China election‑interference allegations

President Donald Trump recently minimized accusations that China interfered in U.S. elections, saying the United States has engaged in similar activities and that the issue is “in the past.” He added that the United States would discuss the matter with Chinese officials but did not mention any sanctions. The remarks came ahead of a planned visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington in September.

At the same time, a Washington Post‑Ipsos poll found that only 15 % of Americans say they are “completely satisfied” with Trump, the lowest level recorded by the firms. Fifty‑one percent are “completely dissatisfied.” Support is especially weak among independent voters (6 %) and remains low among Republican voters (41 %). The poll underscores a sharp decline in Trump’s personal approval despite his continued influence within the Republican Party.
