Trump's Mail-In Voting Limits Spur Governors to Defend Ballot Access

President Donald Trump is pursuing executive actions and legislation to restrict mail‑in voting, including an executive order directing the Postal Service to limit ballot delivery and the SAVE America Act that would add ID requirements. A federal judge blocked the order and the matter is now before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey said the state will continue to protect mail‑in voting, calling Trump’s effort an attempt to “steal this election.” She pledged that state officials will run a “safe and secure” election and criticized the president’s claims of fraud.

Vermont Governor Phil Scott also rejected Trump’s demand to “nationalize” elections, invoking the 10th Amendment and emphasizing state control. Scott noted that mail‑in ballots are popular with Vermont Republicans and have helped increase GOP representation in the state legislature. Both governors framed the issue as a defense of state rights against federal overreach.
