President Donald Trump announced a multimillion‑dollar renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, painting its bottom “American‑flag blue.” Within weeks the water turned green with algae and sections of paint began to peel. Trump blamed “sick, deranged” vandals, warned that “there is a 10 year prison sentence for the destruction, or even the attempted destruction, of such things – Which will be fully enforced!” and noted that five people have been arrested and five others issued federal citations.

The president also vowed to sue ABC News, calling the network “FAKE NEWS” that had allegedly paid him $16 million for past inaccurate reporting. In a Truth Social post he wrote, “I like their money, which will be given to the U.S. Treasury!” and accused the outlet of ignoring alleged spending by former presidents Obama and Biden. ABC reported the arrests and a statement from the Interior Department confirming the citations. Officials are considering draining the pool again to address the ongoing issues.
