Truoi Reservoir water levels lowered for essential repairs

Water levels at the Truoi Reservoir, the largest irrigation reservoir in the southern region of Hue, have dropped significantly due to planned maintenance. The Hue Waterworks Exploitation One Member Limited Liability Company reported that the water level was intentionally lowered starting in mid-August following directives from the Hue People's Committee and the Department of Agriculture and Environment.

The reduction aims to reach an elevation of +17.7 meters, allowing workers to access, dismantle, and replace damaged mechanical components at the main sluice gates. Officials clarified that this is a mandatory technical requirement for inspection and repair before the upcoming flood season, rather than a result of drought or unusual water shortages.

In operation since 2005, the reservoir has a capacity of 55 to 60 million cubic meters and a catchment area of over 75 square kilometers. It serves to provide irrigation for the former Phu Loc district and thousands of hectares of crops in the southern Huong River delta, while also regulating flow and mitigating floods downstream. Repairs are expected to be completed in early September, after which the reservoir will be refilled.
