Trusco Nakayama develops person-sized cooling box to combat heatstroke

Trusco Nakayama, a Japanese company, has developed a large-scale cooling device called the ‘Do Hiemon Box’ to combat extreme summer heat. The stainless steel unit is large enough for a person to step inside and is designed to provide immediate relief by blowing 5°C air and maintaining an internal temperature of 15°C.

Since its launch earlier this year, approximately 200 units have been sold for roughly 1.5 million yen (approximately $9,500 USD) each. The devices are being utilized in steel plants, construction sites, golf courses, universities, and recreational facilities to prevent heatstroke and exhaustion.

Fumiaki Matsubara, general manager of the product division at Trusco, stated that the goal is to provide a device that helps prevent heat exhaustion rather than just offering a place to rest. As global temperatures rise and Japan experiences increasingly hot and humid summers, the company has seen a doubling of demand for workplace cooling products annually and has received inquiries from international markets, including the United States and Germany.
