Trussville man indicted in fatal shooting of Auburn graduate
A Jefferson County grand jury has indicted Jeffrey Scott Towers, 55, on a reckless manslaughter charge in connection with the March shooting death of 22-year-old Whitney Harlow Robeson.
Robeson, an Auburn University graduate from Henrico, Virginia, was fatally wounded on March 7 inside Towers’ home in the 7700 block of Deer Trail in Trussville, Alabama. Following an investigation by the Trussville Police Department, Towers was arrested in May. He remains free on a $30,000 bond.
Towers’ defense attorney, Johnny Amari, stated that while the incident was a “heartbreaking tragedy,” he maintains that the evidence does not establish criminal guilt. A civil wrongful death lawsuit filed by Robeson’s parents is also pending.
