Trust Wallet optimizes app size and streamlines blockchain support
Trust Wallet, a self-custody cryptocurrency wallet acquired by Binance in 2018, has implemented significant technical updates to its platform. The company recently announced a code refactoring process that removed nine years of legacy code, reducing the app's size by approximately 200 MB. This optimization aims to improve performance and efficiency without altering core user functionality.
As part of a broader strategy to focus engineering resources, the wallet also recently discontinued native support for 25 lower-activity blockchain networks. While the app now supports over 100 blockchains, users on the discontinued networks maintain access to their assets via their recovery phrases.
As a non-custodial service, Trust Wallet operates on a model where users maintain exclusive responsibility for their private keys and mnemonic phrases. The software generates and stores these keys locally on the user's device rather than on company servers, meaning the company cannot reset accounts or recover lost access.
