Truxton Extreme brings cult shoot 'em up series to modern consoles
The cult shoot 'em up series Truxton, known in Japan as Tatsujin, is returning after nearly four decades with the release of Truxton Extreme. Published by Clear River Games and managed by the entity Tatsujin, which handles the Toaplan legacy, the game is scheduled for release on July 30, 2026, for PC and consoles.
This new installment marks a significant technical shift for the franchise, moving from traditional 2D sprites to fully modeled 3D graphics for environments, ships, and combat. While maintaining the core gameplay of piloting vessels through waves of enemies and dodging projectiles, the update aims to modernize the classic arcade experience.
Physical editions will be available for Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series, alongside digital versions. The series is noted for its historical importance in the genre, with the original Toaplan titles having influenced the development of the bullet hell subgenre and subsequent major studios.
