Tryg Forsikring warns of risks during winter vehicle storage

Tryg Forsikring is warning owners of motorhomes and vintage cars about the risks associated with winter storage. Many owners choose to de-register their vehicles and cancel insurance for the season, but the company notes that risks such as rodents, moisture, and theft persist even while a vehicle is stationary.

Espen Borge, a communications advisor at Tryg, highlights that de-registering a vehicle automatically terminates liability insurance and coverage for driver and passenger accidents. While de-registration avoids state traffic insurance fees, owners risk driving illegally if they forget to re-register the vehicle before using it again.

To mitigate damage, Tryg recommends emptying water systems to prevent frost damage, cleaning the vehicle thoroughly to avoid attracting rodents, and removing valuables to deter theft. They also suggest ensuring proper ventilation and conducting regular inspections throughout the winter.
