Trygve Slagsvold Vedum opposes fuel tax hikes and criticizes public spending
Centre Party leader and Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum is advocating against planned increases in fuel CO2 taxes leading up to 2035. During his visit to Arendalsuka, Vedum warned of a potential ‘tax shock’ if CO2 taxes rise by six kroner on top of existing increases, noting that such hikes would disproportionately affect small businesses and private individuals unable to afford new vehicles.
Vedum also criticized current trends in public spending, specifically pointing to the growth of communication departments within the public sector. He noted that the Stortinget (Parliament) employs dedicated teams to produce social media content during events like Arendalsuka, which he cited as an example of the expanding bureaucracy and unnecessary public expenditure that he aims to reduce.
