TSA launches Gateside program for PreCheck members

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has launched a pilot program called ‘Gateside by TSA PreCheck,’ allowing vetted, non-ticketed individuals to pass through security checkpoints to reach airport gates.

To participate, individuals must hold TSA PreCheck benefits or a Known Traveler Number (KTN). Applicants must register via Login.gov one to three days in advance. Once cleared, they can use dedicated PreCheck lanes to access terminal areas, enabling them to meet arriving passengers, see off departing travelers, or utilize airport dining and shopping.

The program is currently active at 13 U.S. airports, including major hubs such as Dallas Fort Worth International, Los Angeles International, San Diego International, Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County, and Mesa Gateway. The TSA intends to expand the program to more locations in the coming months.

While the program aims to restore pre-9/11 travel experiences, visitors remain subject to standard security screening and federal codes of conduct. Violations may result in the revocation of access privileges or legal penalties. The initiative utilizes the existing vetting system managed by the Department of Homeland Security to manage security risks.
