TSA reaffirms peanut butter classification as a liquid
The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has reaffirmed its classification of peanut butter as a liquid, defending the rule following traveler pushback on social media. The agency clarified on X that peanut butter falls under existing liquid restrictions at airport security checkpoints.
Under current TSA regulations, all liquids, gels, and aerosols in carry-on luggage are subject to a 3.4-ounce (100ml) limit. Travelers have reported having containers confiscated because peanut butter is categorized as a spread, which the agency treats as a liquid. The TSA noted that security procedures are subject to change to meet evolving threats and maintain transportation security.
