TSA to implement new PreCheck screening technology at seven airports

The TSA is preparing to implement a new screening setup for PreCheck passengers at seven airports within the next six weeks. According to TSA Administrator David Cummins, the initiative aims to double passenger throughput by utilizing advanced technology.

The updated process will include electronic gates for self-service identity verification using facial matching, reducing the need for manual document checks. Additionally, PreCheck passengers may be required to use Advanced Imaging Technology body scanners rather than traditional walk-through metal detectors.

The plan also incorporates automated bag screening software, referred to as ‘image on alarm,’ which uses automated threat detection to flag specific images for officer review. This technology has previously undergone testing in Nashville and Las Vegas.
