Tsai Ing-wen visits San Francisco for Stanford security conference

Former Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen has arrived in the San Francisco Bay Area for her first visit to the United States since leaving office in May 2024. Upon her arrival at San Francisco International Airport, she was greeted by approximately one hundred members of the Northern California Taiwan Benevolent Association and other community groups.

During her visit, Tsai met with former U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi in San Francisco. Pelosi described Tsai as a “brave defender of democracy” and a “dear friend of the United States,” reaffirming that the U.S. Congress remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Taiwan and their freedom. During the meeting, Tsai presented Pelosi with a silk scarf designed by Taiwanese designer Chien Chun-yuan.

Tsai is scheduled to participate in the “Stanford Conference on Tech + National Security,” organized by the Stanford student group DEFCON. The event features discussions on topics such as defending Taiwanese democracy, strategic investment in defense, and the intersection of government and private capital regarding national security. Other speakers include General CQ Brown Jr. and officials from the Defense Innovation Unit.
