Tsai Kang-yong and Wang Wei-chung discuss identity and politics

In a recent broadcast interview, media personalities Tsai Kang-yong and Wang Wei-chung engaged in a deep dialogue regarding cross-strait relations, politics, and identity. Wang Wei-chung initially expressed concern that Tsai’s political stances might damage his status as a cultural bridge between Taiwan and mainland China, suggesting such moves could undermine mutual trust.

Tsai Kang-yong addressed his experiences as a gay man, stating that he has never been a stranger to malice due to his sexual orientation. He explained that for LGBTQ+ individuals, living in a political environment is unavoidable. Tsai expressed a desire to see political candidates focus on policy rather than character attacks, noting that even a small number of candidates prioritizing substance could justify the personal costs he has incurred.

Director Yeh Tien-lun praised the conversation, describing it as a vital dialogue that explores perspectives often overlooked. He noted the significance of the discussion occurring ahead of the Taipei Pride Parade.
