Tsai Ming-Liang presents Walker exhibition in San Sebastián

Filmmaker Tsai Ming-Liang is presenting his latest work and a dedicated exhibition at the Tabakalera center in San Sebastián. The cultural intervention includes the exhibition ‘Walker’, which will remain on display until December 6.

As part of the Zabaltegi-Tabakalera section of the San Sebastián Film Festival, Tsai is presenting ‘Dust’ (Weichen/La deriva), the newest chapter in his ‘Walker’ series. The series, which began in 2011, features actor Lee Kang-sheng portraying a contemporary monk inspired by the historical figure Xuanzang. The films focus on the concept of extreme slowness, utilizing a formal research method that prioritizes texture and contemplation over traditional scripts or rapid pacing.

The exhibition ‘Walker’ brings together three audiovisual pieces: ‘No Form’ (2012), ‘Walker’ (2012), and ‘Journey to the West’ (2014). These works explore the director's radical cinematic approach of transforming slowness into a political and aesthetic gesture, contrasting the rhythmic pace of the character against the acceleration of modern urban life.
