Tsakistras community mourns after body of missing woman found

The eleven-day search for 75-year-old Eratos Athanasiou has ended in tragedy after her body was discovered in a forested area near Tsakistras, Cyprus.

Her remains were located by two forest firefighters during scheduled works in the ‘Aloupofournoi’ area, on a forest road between Mavra Styksia and Elika, near the Panagia ton Elikon chapel. The discovery follows an extensive search operation that mobilized hundreds of volunteers and various state services, including the Cyprus Police, the Fire Service, the Department of Forests, and Civil Defence.

Search efforts utilized helicopters, drones, and rescue dogs, covering difficult terrain such as cliffs, wells, and mountain paths from Gerakia to Stavros tis Psokas. The community of Tsakistras expressed profound grief over the outcome, noting that the massive mobilization included both acquaintances and strangers united in the effort to find her alive.
