TSE rules on Bolsonaro posts and religious disinformation

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has reached a decision regarding the removal of social media posts involving Flávio Bolsonaro and the religious figure Nossa Senhora Aparecida. The court formed a majority to maintain the removal of posts falsely claiming Bolsonaro intended to strip the saint of her title as Brazil's patroness. However, the TSE also voted to allow a specific satirical post by comedian Antonio Tabet to remain online, distinguishing between disinformation and protected humor or opinion.

This ruling follows a period of judicial tension between the TSE and the Supreme Federal Court (STF). Minister Flávio Dino of the STF subsequently declared the loss of object in his legal proceedings regarding Tabet's post, as the TSE's plenary decision addressed the matter.

Separately, Flávio Bolsonaro announced his withdrawal from a scheduled TV Globo presidential debate. He cited judicial interference by the TSE and STF as the primary reasons, specifically regarding rules about empty podiums for absent candidates and the inclusion of other debaters, which he characterized as censorship.
