TSE orders Instagram to provide data for Acadêmicos de Niterói leader

The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has ordered Instagram to provide registration data for Hugo Júnior, a leader of the Acadêmicos de Niterói samba school. The measure is a procedural step intended to locate a representative of the school to formalize a summons regarding an electoral lawsuit.

The lawsuit, filed by the Missão party, targets President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, the Workers' Party (PT), and the samba school following a parade that featured a float honoring the president. The court clarified that this order does not constitute a recognition of early electoral propaganda or any illegal activity, but is necessary because the school is not registered in the Electronic Judicial Domicile system used for official communications.

In addition to registration details, the court ordered the release of information regarding financial transactions that could help identify the address of the profile holder. These documents will remain under seal.
