TSE clarifies voter status and addresses election data processing

The Brazilian Superior Electoral Court (TSE) has addressed widespread voter confusion regarding the 2026 general elections. Following reports of voters seeing a 'faltou' (absent) status on the official website despite having voted, the TSE clarified that this message does not indicate a failure to vote. Instead, it reflects that first-round data is still being processed, a task scheduled for completion by October 11.

To mitigate confusion, the TSE updated its system to replace the term 'faltou' with 'em processamento' (in processing). The court also addressed a 50-minute delay in national presidential result updates on election night, stating it was a data processing containment that did not affect the integrity of the vote counting or the recorded results.

Regarding the upcoming second round on October 25, the TSE confirmed that voters who did not participate in the first round remain eligible to vote, provided their registration is regular. Those who missed the first round must still justify their absence by December 3, 2026. Additionally, the issuance of online electoral discharge certificates via the e-Título app is temporarily suspended and expected to resume by October 12.

Polling data following the first round shows a competitive race between Flávio Bolsonaro and Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, with recent surveys indicating Bolsonaro leading with 53% to Lula's 47%.
