TSMC construction accident in Kaohsiung leaves four injured

A major industrial accident occurred on October 20 at the TSMC F22 P4 construction site in the Nanzi District of Kaohsiung. During steel structure hoisting operations, a bolt failure caused four subcontracted workers to fall from approximately three stories high.

According to reports from the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau, the casualties include two individuals who were in cardiopulmonary arrest before reaching the hospital (OHCA), one person with serious injuries, and one person with minor injuries. Emergency responders deployed ten vehicles and 22 personnel to the scene to provide aid and transport the victims.

TSMC stated that its onsite medical personnel provided immediate first aid and that the company has voluntarily suspended work at the site to cooperate with authorities. The construction site is part of a subcontracted scope of work. The Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau has ordered an immediate work stoppage and prohibited the movement of the accident scene. Authorities are investigating whether the employer or the business unit violated the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
