TSMC expands 3nm semiconductor production in Kumamoto, Japan

TSMC is advancing plans to manufacture next-generation 3nm semiconductors at its second factory in Kumamoto, Japan. This strategic shift aims to bolster Japan's domestic semiconductor manufacturing capabilities to meet rising demand for artificial intelligence, high-performance computing, and advanced electronics.

The expansion is expected to create significant business opportunities across the Japanese semiconductor ecosystem, including manufacturers of specialized production equipment, high-purity chemicals, and advanced materials. Companies involved in lithography, etching, and cleaning processes are positioned to benefit from the increased demand for advanced logic semiconductors.

In a related development within the materials sector, ADEKA has announced plans to expand its production capacity for photoacid generators used in advanced lithography. The company intends to establish new production lines at its Chiba and Kashima plants to support EUV and High-NA EUV applications, with commercial production slated to begin between 2028 and 2029.
