TSMC Boosts Arizona Investment to $265 B Amid Strong AI Chip Demand

Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) announced an additional $100 billion investment in its Arizona facilities, raising the total U.S. commitment to $265 billion. The expansion will bring the Arizona campus to 12 fabrication and advanced‑packaging sites, including a new R&D centre, to meet what the company calls “multi‑year structural demand” for artificial‑intelligence chips. CFO Wendell Huang said the company is “very happy” with progress and grateful for U.S. government support, while noting challenges such as a shortage of construction workers and infrastructure constraints.

TSMC also continues to enlarge its Taiwan operations, planning 13 new leading‑edge fabs and advanced‑packaging plants. The move is driven by soaring AI‑related semiconductor orders from major customers such as Nvidia, AMD and Apple, and is seen as a response to growing competition and geopolitical pressures. The investment follows record second‑quarter earnings, with revenue growth projected above 40 % for 2026.
