TSMC accelerates 1.4nm chip production timeline
TSMC is accelerating its roadmap for 1.4nm semiconductor production, potentially moving its timeline up by nearly a year. According to reports from Taiwanese media, the company's 1.4nm manufacturing technology, also referred to as the 14A node, is expected to follow its 2nm process.
Construction of a new facility in Taichung is already underway, with the complex planned to house four factories. The first factory is projected to enter trial production in April 2027, with mass production slated for the second half of that year. The second factory, designated P2, is currently in the steel structure assembly phase and is expected to be completed by October 2027.
This updated schedule significantly advances previous estimates that placed mass production in 2028. While the first two factories are progressing rapidly, the third and fourth facilities are in earlier stages, with the third having received construction licenses and the fourth still undergoing the permitting process. Total investments for the 1.4nm process are estimated at approximately $49 billion.
