TSTT faces wage disputes and business model shift in Trinidad and Tobago

Trinidad and Tobago’s Minister of Public Utilities, Barry Padarath, has addressed ongoing tensions regarding the telecommunications company TSTT. The Minister denied claims made by the Communication Workers Union (CWU) that a 10% wage increase had been offered, stating that no such offer is on the table and that the government will not be “bullied” by industrial action.

Beyond wage disputes, the government is planning to transition TSTT from a traditional telecommunications provider into a broader technology-based company. Minister Padarath noted that while the company has returned to profitability under the current administration, it must evolve to include new revenue streams such as data centers and smart classroom technologies to ensure long-term financial stability.
