Tsugaru Strait earthquake hits Hokkaido and Aomori

A magnitude 4.5 earthquake occurred in the Tsugaru Strait at approximately 5:31 PM on September 13, 2026. The earthquake originated at a depth of about 120km.

The strongest tremors, measuring a seismic intensity of 3, were recorded in Hakodate City in Hokkaido and in Nobeyama Town and Higashidori Village in Aomori Prefecture. Intensity 2 tremors were felt in parts of Iwate Prefecture, including Kuji and Karumai, as well as several locations across Hokkaido and Aomori.

There is no threat of a tsunami resulting from this seismic event.
