Tsukuba Express doors opened mid-transit after passenger manipulated emergency valve
On the morning of the 11th, a passenger on a Tsukuba Express train manipulated an emergency door cock, causing doors to open while the train was in motion. The incident occurred around 9:35 AM on a train traveling from Akihabara toward Tsukuba.
Security camera footage shows a passenger operating the emergency valve in car number five after the train departed Nagareyama-otakanomori Station. While the emergency mechanism is designed not to function at speeds above 5 km/h, the doors opened approximately 15 centimeters as the train slowed down while approaching Moriya Station.
Approximately 300 passengers were on board at the time. No injuries or falls were reported, though the incident caused delays of up to nine minutes. Metropolitan Intercity Railway Company is investigating the circumstances behind the passenger's actions.
