Tsumura launches second frailty awareness poetry campaign

Tsumura Co., Ltd. has launched the second annual ‘Frailty Senryu’ campaign, a poetry competition designed to raise awareness about frailty—a state of declining physical and mental strength often preceding dependency. The campaign, part of the ‘Frailty Action from Age 50’ project, runs from September 1 to October 31, 2026.

Participants are encouraged to submit senryu (short poems) regarding their own experiences with aging, health measures they have started, or observations of frailty in others. To encourage broader participation, the company has introduced five new award categories focusing on specific symptoms: frequent urination, insomnia, loss of appetite, fatigue, and physical discomfort in the legs or hips.

The Grand Prix winner will receive 500,000 yen. Other prizes include runner-up awards, judges' awards, and various category-specific prizes. The campaign aims to help individuals in their 50s and beyond recognize early signs of frailty to promote healthy longevity.
