Boyko Borisov calls for right-wing unity in presidential elections

Boyko Borisov, leader of the GERB party, has stated that without a clear democratic unity among right-wing forces, individual party candidates will have no chance in the upcoming presidential elections. Speaking in Pernik, Borisov emphasized that the political landscape has changed significantly compared to previous years.

He specifically cited the candidacy of Iliyana Yotova, who is expected to be nominated by an initiative committee and supported by Progressive Bulgaria, as a major factor. Borisov issued a call for "reason" to prevail within the next ten days to allow the right to oppose the left. He warned that if a unified front is not formed, the election outcome might already be predictable, stating, “we can congratulate Ms. Yotova from now on.”

Regarding GERB's own participation, Borisov noted that the decision to field a candidate rests with the party's Executive Commission rather than himself. He also expressed distrust in the election process, specifically citing concerns regarding machine voting, certification, and the role of the Ministry of Interior.

In a separate comment, Tsvetan Tsvetanov suggested that Borisov himself should be the GERB candidate to demonstrate the party's current standing.
