Tsvetan Tsvetanov warns of severe crisis for GERB

Tsvetan Tsvetanov, the former deputy chairman of GERB and current leader of Republicans for Bulgaria, has issued a stark warning regarding the political standing of GERB. He stated that the party is facing a severe crisis and predicted it could receive as few as 280,000 votes in potential new parliamentary elections.

Tsvetanov suggested that if GERB fails to nominate its own candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, it would be equivalent to “raising a white flag,” signaling a significant loss of influence. He further warned that the upcoming local elections could be a “catastrophe” for the party, noting that many current mayors might distance themselves from GERB to run via initiative committees instead.

Regarding his own political project, Tsvetanov claimed that Republicans for Bulgaria faced repressive actions and pressure from state institutions from its inception, which hindered its growth. He also admitted to a political error in launching his new party too soon after leaving GERB.
