TSX Composite falls as First Quantum Minerals shares plunge
The S&P/TSX Composite Index fell 224 points, or 0.6%, to settle at 35,236, marking its third consecutive session of decline. The downturn was driven by falling metals prices and ongoing trade tensions between Canada and the United States.
First Quantum Minerals was the worst performer on the TSX, with its stock dropping over 15% to $38.23 per share. The selloff followed news regarding its Cobre Panamá mine, where a Panamanian ministerial commission recommended negotiations to facilitate an orderly closure of the project rather than an extension. The company stated it intends to engage constructively with the Panamanian government regarding the next steps.
