T&T Energy Group and TotalEnergies partner on Long Son LNG project

T&T Energy Group from Vietnam and TotalEnergies Gas & Power Activities from France have signed a memorandum of understanding to cooperate on the development of the Long Son LNG project. The agreement was established during official visits and summits involving leadership from both nations, marking a strategic partnership to support Vietnam’s energy transition.

Under Vietnam’s adjusted Power Development Plan VIII, liquefied natural gas (LNG) is designated to play a significant role in the national energy mix due to its high efficiency and lower emissions. Vietnam aims to have 22 LNG projects operational between 2025 and 2035, with 15 projects expected to reach commercial operation by 2030, totaling a capacity of 22,524 MW.

The Long Son LNG project is viewed as critical for enhancing energy security and supporting socio-economic development, particularly for the southern power system. This is especially vital for Ho Chi Minh City, where local power capacity currently meets only about 47% of consumption needs. The project aims to accelerate investment and completion between 2026 and 2030 to address energy supply gaps.
