TU Eindhoven student leaves Netherlands after Hitler salute incident

A student at Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) has left the Netherlands following an incident in which he performed a Hitler salute and made racist and offensive remarks during a lecture for first-year electrical engineering students. The incident led to a confrontation with other students, requiring security intervention and the cancellation of the lecture.

The Public Prosecution Service (OM) decided not to pursue criminal prosecution, describing the individual as a “vulnerable suspect” who requires assistance. Following discussions with the student and his father, it was agreed that the student would return to his home country to seek help. The OM stated that by having the student leave the country and banning him from the TU/e campus, they could prevent further unrest without the need for prosecution.

TU Eindhoven described the student's departure as a “reassuring development” for the university community. The student had been temporarily banned from campus following the incident, and the university indicated it is not expected that he will return in the near future.
