Tuanku Muhriz remains Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan

The Dewan Keadilan dan Undang (DKU) has affirmed that Tuanku Muhriz Ibni Almarhum Tuanku Munawir remains the Yang di-Pertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan. The council stated that no legal process has occurred to terminate his position.

The DKU declared a proclamation dated April 19 unconstitutional, noting that three of the four individuals who signed it did not hold the position of Undang according to their respective customs at the time of signing. Furthermore, the council emphasized that under Article X(1) of the Negeri Sembilan State Constitution 1959, a full investigation must be conducted before a Yang di-Pertuan Besar can be asked to step down. No such investigation was performed, and Tuanku Muhriz was not given notice or an opportunity to be heard.

The council also noted that the proclamation became void after the Menteri Besar refused to sign it on April 20. The DKU characterized the actions of six individuals who signed a subsequent document on September 5 as treasonous under customary and legal frameworks, directing civil servants to ignore the document and stating that police reports would be filed.
