Tuberculosis Awareness Week observed in Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia
The Tuberculosis Awareness Week is being observed from September 14 to 21 to promote prevention, early detection, and treatment of the infectious disease. Organizations such as the Red Cross are participating in various activities to raise public awareness.
In Doboj, the Red Cross has organized activities including blood pressure and blood sugar testing, while also collecting funds through the sale of stamps. At the ‘St. Apostle Luka’ Hospital in Doboj, 21 new cases have been recorded since the beginning of the year. In Republika Srpska, 113 new cases were documented last year.
In Zadar, Croatia, the Zadar City Red Cross Society visited patients in the pulmonology department of the Zadar General Hospital, providing hygiene supplies and donating adult diapers and anti-decubitus creams to the department. Data from the Zadar General Hospital shows that five patients have been treated for tuberculosis so far this year, following ten cases recorded last year.
Medical experts emphasize that symptoms such as persistent cough, chest pain, fever, night sweats, and weight loss should not be ignored. Prevention measures include maintaining good hygiene, proper nutrition, and ensuring adequate ventilation in indoor spaces.
