Tuğberk İmamoğlu wreck located in Marmara Sea after collision
The wreck of the cargo ship Tuğberk İmamoğlu has been located at a depth of 720 meters in the Marmara Sea, approximately 18 miles south of Silivri. The vessel sank following a collision with the tanker MT Alsu on September 2.
Search and rescue operations, involving the Turkish Navy's TCG Akın, Coast Guard, and various other agencies, continue to search for the 10 missing crew members. While one life raft has been recovered, no survivors have been found. An ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) successfully captured images of the sunken vessel, confirming its identity.
Preliminary investigations suggest the collision may have been exacerbated by the Tuğberk İmamoğlu's AIS (Automatic Identification System) being non-functional, causing it to appear as an unidentified radar trace. Reports indicate the cargo ship made a sudden right-hand maneuver shortly before the impact. Consequently, nine crew members from the tanker Alsu have been detained as authorities investigate potential breaches of safety protocols.
