Tucker Carlson quits Republican Party, deepening GOP split ahead of midterms

Prominent Fox News host Tucker Carlson announced he will not back the Republican Party in the upcoming U.S. midterm elections, saying the party has become "immoral" and urging a new third‑party space for MAGA voters. Carlson, who reaches more than 17 million followers on social media, warned that his departure could prompt many others to leave.

His break follows disputes over the war in Iran and broader criticism of President Donald Trump’s policies. Right‑wing influencers Candace Owens, Megyn Kelly and white‑nationalist commentator Nick Fuentes have joined Carlson in denouncing the GOP’s direction. Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene also signaled support for Carlson’s stance.

Speculation has arisen about Carlson’s political ambitions, with polls assigning him a modest chance of a Republican presidential nomination in 2028. Nonetheless, Carlson has publicly denied any intention to run for office. His exit marks a significant internal rift within the Republican Party as it prepares for the 2024 election cycle.
