Tucumán commemorates 90 years of first provincial protected areas

Tucumán is commemorating the 90th anniversary of the creation of La Florida Provincial Park and Aconquija Provincial Park. Established in 1936 through provincial laws, these sites made Tucumán the first province in Argentina to create natural protected areas under provincial administration.

To mark the milestone, the Directorate of Flora, Wild Fauna and Soils and the Sub-directorate of Natural Protected Areas will host an event in November at La Florida Provincial Park. The initiative aims to highlight the historical importance of these areas and their ongoing role in biodiversity conservation, scientific knowledge, and environmental education.

La Florida Provincial Park covers more than 15,000 hectares in the Monteros department, featuring an altitudinal gradient from 550 to 5,000 meters above sea level. It protects various ecosystems, including the Yungas and High Andean regions, as well as rare remnants of the Pedemontana Forest. Aconquija Provincial Park, located in the Yerba Buena department, preserves sections of the Yungas, specifically the Montane Forest.
