Tucumán councilors demand intervention in state water company

Tucumán city councilors José María Canelada and Gustavo Cobos have submitted formal requests to Governor Osvaldo Jaldo demanding intervention in the state-owned water company, Sociedad Aguas del Tucumán (SAT).

The councilors denounced what they described as “extortive” billing practices, alleging that users with only a few unpaid invoices are receiving demands for millions of pesos. They have called for greater transparency regarding the use of collected funds.

Additionally, the councilors are demanding urgent infrastructure repairs following an incident in Villa Luján where a three-year-old child fell into an uncovered storm drain. While SAT head Marcelo Caponio attributed the lack of covers to theft, stating the company has replaced 400 covers in two years, local residents claim the issue stems from structural deterioration and long-standing neglect.
