Tucumán expands HIV prevention training as bronchiolitis and influenza cases rise

On 22 May, health officials in Tucumán held a training session at the Hospital Centro de Salud “Zenón J. Santillán” to update professionals on HIV, other sexually transmitted infections and viral hepatitis. Dr. Alejandra Mattiacci called the training “fundamental to positively impact the community,” while Dr. Claudia Lucena stressed the need to update protocols amid rising syphilis cases. Project coordinator Dr. Sergio Maulen highlighted the inclusion of patient organisations and alignment with UNAIDS goals.

Provincial Health Minister Luis Medina Ruiz later chaired a situation‑room at Hospital Néstor Kirchner to assess an increase in bronchiolitis and influenza. Around 150 bronchiolitis cases are reported weekly, mostly among children under two, yet the health system remains unsaturated. Authorities urged vaccination of pregnant women, flu shots for seniors and at‑risk groups, mask use indoors, and continued early medical consultation. They also noted a sustained decline in chikungunya cases and the absence of dengue in the province.
