Tucumán implements new juvenile criminal regime
The province of Tucumán has officially implemented a new juvenile criminal regime following the promulgation of Law No. 10011. This provincial legislation, signed by Governor Osvaldo Jaldo, establishes a framework for the execution and supervision of measures and penalties applied to adolescents in conflict with criminal law.
The move aligns Tucumán with national reforms approved by the Argentine Congress and promulgated by President Javier Milei through Decree 138/2026. A central component of this reform is the reduction of the minimum age of criminal responsibility from 16 to 14 years.
The new legal framework covers adolescents between the ages of 14 and 17 and introduces specialized procedures, guarantees, and mechanisms for handling crimes committed by minors. This replaces the previous system established by Law 22278, which had been in effect since 1980.
