Tucumán legislator proposes 180-day freeze on EDET electricity tariffs

A new legislative bill has been introduced in the Tucumán Legislature aimed at mitigating the impact of rising electricity costs on households and productive sectors in the province. Proposed by legislator Raquel Evangelina Nievas, the initiative seeks to freeze all tariff updates for the Empresa de Distribución Eléctrica de Tucumán (EDET) for a period of 180 days.

The project specifically challenges the application of Resolution ERSEPT N° 596/26, proposing a temporary return to the pricing schemes that existed prior to that regulation. To prevent future financial burdens on consumers, the bill prohibits EDET from passing on any uncollected sums through retroactive charges, hidden fees, or future compensations.

Additionally, the proposal includes social protections to prevent service interruptions. It seeks to prohibit the cutting of electricity supplies due to non-payment for residential users, businesses, and small companies during the six-month period. For those with existing debts, the bill suggests that EDET must offer regularization plans of up to 12 consecutive monthly installments without interest or additional financial costs.
