Tucumán officials demand review of EDET electricity concession
In Tucumán, local leaders and residents are calling on Governor Osvaldo Jaldo to review the concession contract of the electricity distribution company EDET. The initiative, led by Councilor Agustina Simón Padrós, legislator Manuel Courel, and resident Leandro Reynoso, seeks a comprehensive evaluation of the company’s contractual obligations.
Proponents of the review cite excessively high electricity bills, which are among the highest in the country, alongside frequent power outages and voltage drops during the summer. A resolution has been presented to the Legislature requesting that the provincial Executive Power, alongside the regulatory body Ersept, conduct a documented review of EDET’s investments, service quality, and network maintenance.
Central to the demand is a clarification of billing criteria, including interest rates, surcharges, and reconnection conditions. Some advocates are calling for a new bidding process for the provincial electricity sector after 30 years of service.
