Tucumán sets record for daily sugar cane milling in Argentina

The sugar cane harvest in Tucumán, Argentina, has reached a historic milestone, with daily milling peaks hitting 134,000 tons. This surpasses the previous record of 128,000 tons per day. According to the Instituto de Promoción del Azúcar y Alcohol de Tucumán (IPAAT), the province has processed 9,785,869 tons of raw cane after 115 days of activity, representing approximately 50% of the 19,650,000 tons projected by the Estación Experimental Agroindustrial Obispo Colombres (EEAOC).

Industrial efficiency has improved, with saccharine yields in good-quality cane increasing by 5% compared to the previous harvest. To date, the province has produced 717,747 tons of various sugar types, including white, refined, crude, and organic. Additionally, eight distilleries have produced over 154 million liters of hydrated alcohol and approximately 100 million liters of anhydrous alcohol (bioethanol) for fuel blending.

In the neighboring provinces of Salta and Jujuy, the harvest is also progressing steadily. After 108 days, five active mills have processed 4,076,039 tons of raw cane, marking a 54% advancement relative to local estimates. This regional production has yielded 293,530 tons of physical sugar so far.
