Traffic authorities in Spain, Argentina, and Ecuador increase enforcement

Various regions in Spain, Argentina, and Ecuador are reporting a rise in traffic incidents and law enforcement actions related to driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

In Spain, the Ertzaintza detained a 35-year-old man in Beasain after a high-speed chase involving a police vehicle, while in Tudela, the Policía Foral impounded a truck carrying dangerous goods after the driver tested positive for amphetamines.

In Argentina, Mendoza authorities reported that nearly 3% of drivers tested positive for alcohol in 2026, following a fatal accident in Maipú where a driver had 2.6 grams of alcohol per liter of blood. In Comodoro Rivadavia, a drunk driver struck a parked vehicle.

In Ecuador, authorities in Bolívar apprehended a 17-year-old for driving under the influence, and in Quito, the Agencia Metropolitana de Control is increasing inspections near universities to curb public alcohol consumption.
