Tuen Mun Hospital opens new neuroscience centre in Hong Kong
Tuen Mun Hospital has launched a new neuroscience centre designed to provide integrated treatment and rehabilitation for patients suffering from neurological diseases. The facility introduces Hong Kong’s first magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound and intraoperative MRI services, which are expected to expand treatment options and improve patient outcomes.
The centre utilizes a “programme floor” concept that co-locates operating theatres, wards, and day services to facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration and minimize patient travel between departments. Secretary for Health Professor Lo Chung-mau noted that the centre offers new hope for patients dealing with acute stroke and dyskinesia.
Following its proposal in the 2022 Policy Address, the centre began phased service launches in late 2024. Future plans include the development of an integrated rehabilitation centre to support continuous care and strengthen research collaborations to advance treatments for neurological conditions.
