Tuensang DTO building collapses following ground subsidence

The District Transport Office (DTO) building in Tuensang, Nagaland, collapsed on the morning of August 27 following days of heavy rainfall and continuous ground subsidence. The collapse occurred in the Post Office Ward area.

No casualties or injuries were reported, as authorities had previously identified the structure as unsafe. Following an inspection on July 23, the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) declared the building unstable due to severe land sinking and slope instability.

Precautionary measures included the evacuation of the building and nearby residences, including 39 households in the IOC colony, by late July. While emergency demolition efforts were attempted by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) and other agencies, work was eventually halted because the site became too dangerous for workers to operate safely.
