Tui community protests for Pazos de Reis school reform

More than 300 people, including students and families, marched through the center of Tui to demand the Xunta de Galicia carry out a comprehensive reform of the CEIP Pazos de Reis school. The protest, which moved from the school to the Paseo da Corredoira, highlights a struggle for improvements that has lasted over two decades.

The educational community reports that the 65-year-old building is in unsanitary conditions. Specific issues cited by the Parents' Association (ANPA) include humidity, leaks, deteriorating furniture, lifting gymnasium floors, and the risk of falling roof tiles. During cold months, students are reportedly forced to remain in classrooms wearing coats.

While a reform project has been drafted since 2023 and holds a valid license until 2028, the Xunta de Galicia suspended planned works in June, citing a lack of budget. The ANPA, led by president Cristina Álvarez, is demanding a concrete start date and a written commitment to ensure the project is executed before the current license expires.
